Classmates,
Happy New Year!
Here are the results of our December survey concerning a Class Cruise in 2020:
Out of the 200 responses…
– 89% said they were interested in a class cruise
– 85% said that February 2020 was a good date
– 26% said they were not interested in going to Cuba
– 84% said that a 7-8 day cruise was about right; 14% thought it would be too long; and, 2% thought it would be too short.
Thanks to all of you who answered the questionnaire.
With this information I have worked with Bill Burke to choose a cruise that best fits the data we collected. We are now planning a USNA Class Cruise on Holland America departing Fort Lauderdale February 9, 2020, for 7 days on the ship Nieuw Statendam. The Statendam is a new ship having just launched in December 2018. You can check it out at this website:
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/cruise-ships/ms-nieuw-statendam/0.html
The itinerary for this cruise departs Fort Lauderdale on February 9, 2020, with stops in Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Falmouth, Jamaica; Georgetown, Cayman Islands; and, Cozumel, Mexico, before returning to Fort Lauderdale on February 16, 2020.
Bill is now working with Holland America to determine what discounts we might receive and how we might be able to register as a group. I will keep you posted as I receive new information. Once the plans are formalizied I will send you another survey to determine your level of commitment.
We understand that cruises are very individual; you do what you want, when you want …or you just relax and do nothing. However, for those interested, we are exploring how to arrange group events onboard such as sitting together for a dinner, and, for excursions, how we can be grouped together when we go ashore.
So, mark your calendars, check your passports, and set aside some travel funds for next year.
A special “thanks” to Bill Burke for his support and efforts working this for us…
Fair Winds…
