Classmates,

News of interest we would like to share with you…

Another Link in the Chain (ALITC)

I-Day for the Class of 2028 is this Thursday, June 27. This will be ‘78’s first big Another-Link-in-the-Chain (ALITC) event. Our ALITC Chair, Vince Ballerrama (11thCO), and our I-Day Coordinator, Fred Webster (14thCO), have been hard at work preparing us for all the activities of the day. We expect to have over 40 ‘78 graduates participating throughout the day helping to greet parents, other family members and friends of the incoming Class of 2028. We will share photos of the day on our Facebook page and on our Class web-page for all to enjoy.

2024 Distinguished Graduate Award (DGA)

Our DGA Committee, led by Matt Elias (11th CO), is forming to assist in submitting nomination packages for the 2025 DG awards, and they will have their first meeting on July 8. Navy Sports

Navy claimed its 10th-consecutive Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, winning a league-best nine conference championships during the 2023-24 academic year to sit atop the overall standings.

Navy’s current streak of 10-consecutive overall titles is the most in Patriot League Presidents’ Cup history. Navy has won 11 titles overall and has finished first or second in 17-straight years.  Prior to 2000-01, Navy never finished higher than fifth.

USNA and Naval Support Activity Annapolis Installation Resilience Plan

The link below leads to an article that explains the USNA and Naval Support Activity Annapolis installation resilience plan that was developed “…to mitigate the combined effects of land subsidence, sea level rise, ground-water change, coastal flooding/storm surge and inadequate storm water management at the Naval Academy to the year 2100.” Please note that these improvements are being funded through Federal Military Construction appropriations.

Of particular interest is the link towards the end of the article entitled “Executive Summary.” The summary shows lots of pictures of recent flooding with graphics and projections of future inundations and plans to counteract them. The plan was completed in 2022 and is in alignment with the Secretary of the Navy’s priorities. Work to raise the seawalls in the vicinity of Farragut Field and Santee Basin has already begun. For more information, please go to this link and then click on the “Executive Summary” for a Power Point presentation with lots of photos and a good overview of the resilience plan.

AA&F (Alumni Association & Foundation) Morning Paper

AA&F Communications is producing a “Morning Paper,” usually Monday through Friday, that provides short articles on Academy and alumni news of interest and a calendar of USNA and Association/Foundation events. If you are interested in reading the Morning Paper but you are not receiving it in your email, there are two ways you can get it. Go to www.myusna.com and click on the “News” tab. There you will find all the “Daily Morning Papers.” An alternative way is to reach out to John Schofield, Executive Director of Communications for AA&F, at john.schofield@usna.com and ask him to add your email address to his distribution.

Wishing all a great summer!

Fair winds…
