Members of the USNA alumni community: In June, the Alumni Association Board of Trustees stood up an ad hoc special committee to “review all aspects of our Alumni Association mission, board policy, processes, recruitment and succession planning.” The Special Committee on Alumni Culture, Diversity and Inclusion provided an Interim Report to the Board of Trustees on 30 September. This fall, members of the Board and our standing committees will begin discussions of the report and plan for forthcoming action. The next step for the special committee is to deploy a survey to members of the Alumni Association to test and validate the findings and recommendations. Because the work of the committee is not done, and our expectations for the final report and recommendations are high, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution to extend the work of the committee through the end of December. I’m grateful to the 12 members of the special committee for their dedication and commitment to this effort. I know that we still have a lot of work to do, but we are headed fair. You will receive a request from the committee to participate in the survey in the coming days. I ask that you take the time to share your feedback, suggestions and experience as the more input we receive, the better our Alumni Association will be. Very Respectfully, ADM Samuel J. Locklear ’77, USN (Ret.) Chair, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association Board of Trustees |
