From Jeff Webb, CEO, U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation:
Last day at Ogle Hall, which has been the home of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation since 1944. The stories the building could tell, from reunions to weddings to meetings and home for generations of employees.
First day at Fluegel Alumni Center. Our 95 team members will be moving all week. This beautiful, state of the art facility will soon be ready to open its doors to our members and friends to create new memories and experiences.
Some of my favorite touches….”Don’t Give Up The Ship” above stairs that were designed to evoke the Memorial Hall stairs….the USNA seal embedded in the marble floor.…standing desks, showers, and a wellness room to help teammates with their physical and mental well being….a view of the College Creek from many of our offices and event spaces…a lounge that any of our members can drop into at any time.
This project has been a decade in the making. An unyielding drive to make it happen from our board members, donors, staff, USNA, and the U.S. Navy has gotten us here and will pay dividends for our community for generations to come.
While there tens of hundreds of people to thank, these folks are at the top of the list: Rick (‘61) and Donna Fluegel, and ADM Bob Natter (‘67), USN (Ret.).
The Fluegels had the vision and made a massive financial commitment to make this project a reality. From their example other major donors followed, as well as 1,250+ plankowners who made significant financial commitments. For many it was their first act of philanthropy.
ADM Natter has been true hero of mine for many years and for many reasons. He got involved in this project as a board chair and never let up. From getting legislation passed, to selecting our key construction partners like Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) and Perkins Eastman, to stepping up as a major donor, to stewarding other donors, and advising our board leadership and leading our staff, this man has done everything you can ask of anyone.
It’s a beautiful day in Annapolis and a great time to be part of our community. My teammates and I could not be more excited to have this spectacular new home to serve alumni, parents, and the United States Naval Academy!
