During the Navy-UCF football game on 2 October, Chester “Chet” Moeller Jr. ’76 had his jersey number 48 retired at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, making him the first defensive player in Navy football history to be awarded such distinction. Moeller was named a consensus All-American in 1975 and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010. Moeller’s football record includes 275 total tackles from 1973-1975 and he is widely considered the greatest defensive player to ever suit up for the Navy Midshipmen.
