’78 Class Gift survey

Dear Classmates:

Thanks to all of you, the ’78 Class Gift survey was a great success!  319 of you completed the survey and included a wide assortment of insights, opinions, and ideas in thoughtfully expressed comments.  The Gift Committee is excited to report that the concept of an endowment is widely accepted and that there is broad support for retaining flexibility to fund more than one worthwhile project in a single year and through the coming years.  We also received many comments supporting gifts to areas that believe in meritocracy and achievement – how we all learned.

Your responses support:

1.  Giving to Leadership, Academics and Alumni in Need are the top three.

2.   Multiple gifts vs one large one favored by more than 70%

3.   Helping start an endowment with the Class of 2028 is favored but the comments supported making sure that they have some “skin in the game.”

The Survey results will come in a separate email; we had 13 full pages of comments that we are still distilling.  Our plans are to start the fundraising campaign very soon and hope for your continued generosity and support of this important event in the history of the great USNA Class of 1978.  Thanks again for your work here.

Respectfully,

John Semcken
