Classmates,
This is an update from our Class VP Sean Coffey, who is our POC on the Class Project for the 40th:
“Five years ago we set an ambitious goal to raise $1.5 million for our 40th Class Gift across four areas: The Center for Ethical Leadership (led by our own Art Athens); Admissions (led by our own Bruce Latta); Athletic Excellence (because who doesn’t love Navy sports); and the Naval Academy (“Supe’s”) Fund (because four decades later we still sweat the three-star). The contributions continue to roll in and we expect to have a very positive announcement at the Class Meeting next month. Thanks so much to those who have already contributed.
As of now we have a 43% participation rate for our Class, which is terrific by all standards save one — ’78 standards! We really want to get that number well over the halfway mark, so if you haven’t stepped up yet please consider doing so, regardless of amount. All things being equal, we encourage you to pledge your contributions in part to Admissions (Bruce says thank you), to CEL (Art, who is retiring at year end, says thank you), and to Athletic Excellence (the area where we need some help).
Note that Art and Bruce will make short presentations at our meeting to thank us for our assistance to their important work, as will the Naval Academy Foundation CEO (our own Byron Marchant).
Thanks in advance for whatever you can do to help the Class Project. See many of you in a few weeks. Go hard, ’78!
Your Classmate,
Sean”
We will present our Class Gift to Byron and the Foundation at our Class Meeting. Hope to see you all there.
Fair winds…
Glen
