It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our brother, Stephen A. Sterner at his home in Maitland, Fl on August 10, 2023 due to a massive cerebral hemorrhage. It was sudden and without pain and he is now in the comfort of our Lord.
Steve loved family, the military, flying, swimming, dancing, football, lacrosse and dressing up for holidays.
Steve was a 1973 graduate of Severn School , was part of the 15th Company Class of 1978 at the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated from Auburn University in 1978 . He was stricken with a brain tumor at age 29 but soldiered on, move to Longwood, FL and spent countless hours volunteering with the K of C and Annunciation Catholic Church. He was a father and soon to be grandfather.
Steve was a life member of the VFW Post 10147 in Apopka, Fl and the American Legion Post 0297 in Baltimore, MD; 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus at Annunciation Catholic Academy, Altamonte Springs, FL; Sigma Chi lifetime member at Auburn University and official volunteer at the VA Hospital in Orlando, FL.
Steve was the son of the late John Philip “Phil” Sterner of Longwood, FL and is survived by his mother, Jeanne E. (Thrush) Sterner of Longwood, FL; a daughter, Kate (Matt) Doe of Glen Allen, VA; a sister, Susan M. Fisher of Hedgesville, WV; a brother, Mike (Claudia) Sterner of Winter Garden, FL; and a sister, Marianne (Andrew) Mancone of Longwood, FL; nephew, Jonathan (Miranda) Sterner of Covington, VA; niece, Laura (Jordan) Long of Hedgesville, WV and nephew, Anthony Mancone of Orlando, FL.
