Glen Elliott Shipman, 65, of Elkridge, MD passed away on May 8, 2022. He was born in Olathe, Kansas on July 24, 1956 to Gary and Arlene Shipman, who have predeceased him.
He was a graduate of Olathe North High School Class of 1974. During his high school years, Glen was a member of the National Honor Society and also belonged to the high school gymnastics team.
Upon high school graduation, Glen was appointed by Senator Bob Dole to the Naval Academy, where he also was a part of the gymnastics team. Glen’s graduation in 1978 was highlighted with an address from President Jimmy Carter during the ceremony.
After Glen’s graduation from the Academy, he received the commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country until October of 1983. Of noteworthy accomplishment were his 16 years of management in the Data Communications Operations field. He was employed initially by Uninet of Lenexa, KS and then by ARINC of Annapolis, MD.
Glen’s greatest passions in life were music and writing poetry. He was a supremely talented piano player and could sit down at any piano and improvise a song on the fly. In addition to being a lifelong reader of science fiction and westerns, he was known to enjoy a game of pool every now and then.
He is survived by his sister, Lynn Humble of Olathe, KS, his two daughters, Jessica Shipman of Rockville, MD and Lisa Masaitis of Deerfield Beach, FL. He also has two grandsons, Elliott Shipman and Xander Masaitis.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15 at 2:00 PM at Clynmalira United Methodist Church located at 2920 Stockton Rd. Phoenix, MD 21131.
Please note, no flowers for the Memorial service due to severe family allergy issues.
Masks are optional, but as some individuals attending may be high risk for Covid, the family recommends it.
