EAST MARLBOROUGH – The Chester County’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently hosted its Annual 2021 Dinner, which honored Executive of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards.

(Photo by Lisa Luna Photography, courtesy CCCBI)This year’s Executive of the Year award was presented to Michael Duncan, President and CEO of Chester County Hospital, during the November 4th event in Longwood Gardens. The annual chamber dinner celebrates the achievements of the chamber in the past year and looks to the future.
“We were excited to host a major personal event in beautiful Longwood Gardens,” said Dave Hackett, chairman of the board of directors, in a statement. “It was a testament to the strength and resilience of Chester County’s business community.”
Each year, the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry honors a senior executive from a company who has demonstrated “great corporate and civic leadership” in the community. When making the announcement earlier this year, the board said it selected Duncan for his career and leadership during the pandemic.
Prior to joining Chester County Hospital, Duncan was CEO and Executive Director of ColumbiaDoctors, a practice plan for 1,200 doctors at Columbia University in New York City. Prior to joining Columbia, Duncan was CEO of Temple University Physicians and Vice Dean for Clinical Operations at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Upon hearing of his selection, Duncan said he was motivated by “the strength and perseverance that every hospital employee displays.”
“Despite the uncertainty that COVID brought, our hospital family stood upright in the face of fear; Worked together in ways never imagined and provided safe, compassionate care to our community when it was needed most, ”he said in a statement.
According to Chamber Director Todd Kowalski, an estimated 340 people attended the annual 2021 awards ceremony. He added that the Chamber had hosted some face-to-face events with more than 20 attendees over the past year, “mostly when external options were available”. The chamber’s larger events took place virtually throughout the pandemic.
“This was certainly the first event near this capacity,” said Kowalski. He added that in the future the chamber would plan in-person events, “with provisions for spacing and, whenever possible, with the inclusion of outdoor areas”.
During the event, the chamber also honored two Citizens of 2021 – Dave Magrogan, CEO of Harvest Restaurant Holdings and the Dave Magrogan Group; and Bob Rafetto, former co-owner of the Dilworthtown Inn, Blue Pear Bistro, and the inn keeper kitchen.
“It was an honor to recognize the tremendous efforts made by Bob and Dave to support the hospitality industry through the pandemic and the leadership of Michael Duncan,” Hackett said of the event.
