Joe Peterson (6th Co.), Spence Whitten (7th Co.), Rudy Costanzo (16th Co.) and Fred Butterfield represented the class onboard USS Porter (DDG-78) for the 2024 Arch Griffin – Terry O’Brien Memorial Leadership Award Ceremony. Annually since 2005 the program has recognized six members of the crew for outstanding leadership, a Junior Officer, a Chief Petty Officer, each level of Petty Officer, and an E-3 and below ‘Blue Jacket.’ Award winners are nominated by peers and selected by a board chaired by the Captain.
PORTER’s Commanding Officer or The Leadership PORTER’s new CO (as of July), CDR Cameron (Cam) Burnette, was very generous with his time in giving the class delegation a personal tour of the ship (bridge, mess decks, CIC) afterwards.
