On October 3, 2022, the Brigade gathered in Alumni Hall for the second of three Forrestal Lectures this semester. Midshipmen had the amazing opportunity to hear from VADM Mel Williams, Jr., Class of 1978, a retired fleet commander and the first African American to command a nuclear-powered strategic ballistic missile submarine.
The Forrestal Lecture Series was established in 1970 to honor James V. Forrestal, the first Secretary of Defense. The purpose of the series is to enhance the education, awareness, and appreciation of the Brigade of Midshipmen for the social, political, and cultural dimensions of the Nation and the world.
